Traffic changes and out of hours works: Margaret Street and Gardens Point Road exit

Out of hours night works will take place from Monday 5 February to Wednesday 7 February 2024 to realign the lanes on Margaret Street between William and George streets.

From 5am Thursday February 8, 2024, all four lanes will be open on Margaret Street and the give way sign will be removed for motorists exiting Gardens Point Road.

When:

Works to realign the lanes on Margaret Street are expected to take 3 consecutive nights from Monday 5 February to Wednesday 7 February 2024 between 9.00pm and 5.00am.

From 5.00am Thursday 8 February 2024 the current exclusion zone on Margaret Street between William and George streets will no longer be required and all four lanes will open.

Where:

During the out of hours works, the southbound and northbound Margaret Street off-ramps will also be closed for three nights while works are underway on Margaret Street. Motorists will need to use the Elizabeth Street off-ramps for access into the city during the works.

Once the realignment works are completed, four lanes will be operational on Margaret Street between William and George streets. (See map) and the southbound Margaret Street off ramp will revert to its previous state.  The lanes will be reconfigured with line marking and new signage.

Other changed traffic conditions:

Road users on Gardens Point Road will no longer need to give way to vehicles exiting the Riverside Expressway off-ramps onto Margaret St. The dedicated lane from Gardens Point Road onto Margaret Street will be reinstated.

What to expect:

The reinstatement of the Margaret Street lane will include the following:

  • Out of hours works on Monday 5 February to Wednesday 7 February between 9.00pm and 5.00am
  • Southbound and northbound Margaret Street off-ramps will also be closed for three nights while works are underway on Margaret Street
  • Margaret Street will return to four operational lanes from Thursday 8 February
  • Amended line marking on southbound Margaret Street off ramp
  • Removal of the give way signage for motorists exiting Gardens Point Road onto Margaret Street

Detour signage and traffic control will be in place to guide road users and pedestrians during the road closures to realign the lanes. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your ongoing patience.
