Removal of gantry spanning Clem Jones Promenade at South Bank

Updated: On Wednesday 27 October 2021, the Clem Jones Promenade in front of The Wheel of Brisbane, will be temporarily closed for the safe removal of the overhead gantry.

When:

On Wednesday 27 October 2021, between 9:30am and 2pm, Fitzgerald Constructions will remove the temporary gantry that spans the Clem Jones Promenade.

Where:

The overhead gantry is located in front of The Wheel of Brisbane. Fitzgerald will use their barge crane to lift the gantry in sections (see map).

The temporary piles that have supported the gantry will also be removed and all materials lowered onto a waiting barge in the river.

What to expect:

Part of the Clem Jones Promenade will be closed for safety while the work is undertaken. Scissor lifts will be working from the Clem Jones Promenade to assist in the gantry removal

Pedestrian and cyclist access:

The Clem Jones Promenade will be closed between the Clem Jones Russell Street Ramp and Riverside Green (see map below). Traffic controllers will be on-site to guide pedestrians and cyclists along the temporary detour. Cyclists will need to dismount and follow the detour route.
