Temporary Road Closure: William Street

William Street – between the Queen’s Wharf development and Elizabeth Street will be temporarily closed for two days on Friday 26th April and Saturday 27th April 2024. Stephen’s Lane will also be closed during this time.

When:

Works are scheduled for two days on Friday 26th April and Saturday 27th April between 6.30am to 6.30pm. These works are required during daylight hours due to the high-risk nature of the task.

Why:

An exclusion zone is being made for works to dismantle the Tower Crane from Tower One.

Where:

William St (northside of the development) to Elizabeth Street as well as Stephen’s Lane will be closed while works are underway on Margaret Street. Pedestrian access to the Treasury Hotel will be maintained via William St and Queens Park during the works. Pedestrian access to the Commissariat Store Museum will be maintained.

Changed Traffic Conditions:

Motorists accessing the CBD can continue to use the Elizabeth Street and Margaret Street off-ramps. Motorists can continue to exit the car park on William Street at the direction of traffic control and police.

What to expect:

In addition to advance notice for motorists to use alternative routes, the following is also expected:

  • William St closure and reduced speed limits on the approach to the road closure.
  • Detour signage and traffic control to direct motorists through the city.
  • Detour signage and traffic control to direct guests to Treasury Hotel and the Commissariat Store Museum.
  • A mobile crane onsite in William Street.
  • Engine noise from cranes lifting material within the site.
  • Intermittent noisy works, including hammering and rattle guns used on steel.
