Illuminating entrance to Brisbane’s newest entertainment precinct

Guests arriving at Queen’s Wharf via William Street will be greeted with artwork and architecturally designed features including a curved illuminated ceiling.

Every detail of the Porte Cohere has been considered, including an elegant white curved feature ceiling over William Street covering 3,500m2 – the equivalent size to 13 full-sized tennis courts.

In a luminous spectacle, the porte cochere will have a stunning water feature set beneath a light filled oculus that rises over four levels of retail, restaurants, and gaming spaces to the podium deck above.

Destination Brisbane Consortium Project Director Simon Crooks says the entrance will create an impression on every guest that arrives via William Street.

“Though Queen’s Wharf does not have one main entrance, the Porte Cohere will definitely leave guests with a memorable first impression to commence their experience of the new entertainment precinct,” Mr Crooks said.

“This will be enhanced by an enormous 15 metre floating art garden depicting native plants sitting prominently above the Porte Cohere by exciting First Nations artist Tony Albert.”

Multiplex Senior Project Manager Rick Woodford said the ceiling is not only an attractive feature, but it also required innovative building techniques.

“The curved ceilings span up to 16 metres wide and made up of over 500 metres of aluminium troughs housing audio visual, security and lighting underneath the white curves,” Mr Woodford said.

“Once open the spectacular roof will span over a public road which is not something you see every day.”

“The lighting underneath the curved ceiling creates a luxury feel, bring warmth and light into the main entrance – it’s an impressive feature that all visitors to the precinct will be able to admire.

“Other exciting aspects progressing are the back-of-house facilities, ballroom, pre-function amenities and commercial kitchens across the podium which are all in the finishes phase of construction.”

William Street will be the main thoroughfare in the resort connecting visitors to the luxury retail, restaurants, gaming, and leisure deck on podium.

Each week the four towers are reaching skyward with The Star Grand hotel at level 22, The Dorsett and Rosewood hotels tower at level 32, and Queen’s Wharf Residences at level 31.
