Explore Brisbane’s Newest Art and Architecture Attraction
Discover a whole new side of Brisbane with the Museum of Brisbane’s free walking tours, launching in November 2024 at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane. Led by expert guides, these tours offer an immersive exploration of Brisbane’s newest lifestyle precinct, blending art, history, and culture along the riverside.
Over the course of 45 minutes, guests will journey through over 7.5 hectares of public space transformed into an open-air gallery filled with large-scale artworks by renowned First Nations, Queensland, and international artists. From intricate murals and striking sculptures to digital light projections, each installation celebrates Brisbane’s unique artistic spirit.
Highlights include Lindy Lee’s breathtaking “Being Swallowed by the Milky Way,” an eight-metre bronze sculpture that illuminates at night, and Tony Albert’s floating botanical garden, “Inhabitant,” featuring native plants in a stunning display of nature-inspired art – both adorning the primary entrance points to The Star Brisbane.
Visitors will also experience the historic charm of the precinct’s carefully preserved heritage buildings, thoughtfully integrated into the vibrant new site. As guides share stories that tie modern artworks to Brisbane’s past, they reveal connections to the area’s First Nations history, deepening visitors’ appreciation for the cultural significance behind each piece. This journey through Brisbane’s evolving story promises an enriching look at both the city’s past and its bright, creative future.
This initiative marks a new chapter in the Museum of Brisbane’s ongoing commitment to bringing art and history to life beyond gallery walls. Since 2020, the Museum’s guided walking tours have uncovered Brisbane’s history and public art for thousands of visitors, and this latest addition promises an even richer experience, offering locals and tourists alike an intimate view of Brisbane’s cultural gems.
The free tours commence on 11 November 2024 with the first week already sold out. Tours are available every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. For more details and updates, visit the Museum of Brisbane’s website. Get ready to explore the city in a whole new light!
