Temporary Road Closure: William Street

William Street- between The Star Brisbane and Elizabeth Street will be temporarily closed between Friday 16th August and Monday 19th August 2024 to facilitate a tower crane removal from site.

When:

Works are scheduled across the weekend of Friday 16th August from 4.00am to Monday 19th August 11.00pm. These works are required during this time due to the high-risk nature of the task.

If the site conditions are not suitable during this nominated time and works need to stop, the works will recommence at the next available shift.

Why:

An exclusion zone is being made for works to dismantle a Tower Crane from the Queen’s Wharf Development.

Where:

William St (northside of the development) to Elizabeth Street as well as Stephen’s Lane and the Commissariat Museum will be closed while works are underway. Pedestrian access to the Treasury Hotel will be maintained via William St at the direction of traffic control.

Changed traffic conditions:

Motorists accessing the CBD can continue to use the Elizabeth Street off-ramps. There may be some intermittent impacts to traffic entering Elizabeth Street while trucks enter and exit William Street. Motorists can continue to exit the car park on William Street at the direction of traffic control and police.

What to expect:

In addition to advance notice for motorists to use alternative routes, the following is also expected:

  • William St closure and reduced speed limits on the approach to the road closure.
  • Detour signage and traffic control to direct motorists through the city.
  • Detour signage and traffic control to direct guests to Treasury Hotel and the Commissariat Store Museum.
  • A mobile crane onsite in William Street
  • Engine noise from cranes lifting material within the site.
  • Intermittent noisy works, including hammering and truck movement.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your ongoing patience.
