Night works Temporary Closure: Margaret Street and off-ramps from Monday 28 October through 15 November from 8pm Monday to Thursday

Margaret Street closures between William Street and George Street and Margaret Street off-ramps will be in effect from Monday 28th October for night works to facilitate a tower crane removal from site and installation of a gantry.

When:

Works are scheduled from Monday 28th October to Friday 15th November 2024 to remove a tower crane from Queen’s Wharf Residences and install a gantry along Margaret Street. The Margaret Street closure will take place between Monday to Thursday nights 8pm and 5am. These works are required during this time due to the high-risk nature of the tasks on both sides of Margaret Street. William Street East bound from Margaret to Alice will also be closed.  Footpath closures in Margaret Street will start at 7:00pm.

Why:

An exclusion zone on Margaret Street is being made for works to dismantle a Tower Crane from the Queen’s Wharf Development and install a gantry over the righthand side of Margaret Street footpath for continuing construction of Queen’s Wharf Tower.

Where:

Margaret Street from William to George Street will be impacted while works are underway. Margaret Street off-ramps will be closed and diversions in place. Access to The Star Brisbane will be maintained via William St at the direction of police and traffic control. Access and exist from Gardens Point Road and 1 William Street loading bay will remain.

Changed traffic conditions:

Motorists accessing the CBD can use the Elizabeth Street southbound and northbound off-ramps. Access will also be maintained to The Star Brisbane car park entry on William Street. Vehicles will continue to be able to exit The Star via Queens Wharf Road and Gardens Point Road under traffic control.

What to expect:

In addition to advance notice for motorists to use alternative routes, the following is also expected:

  • Margaret Street off-ramp closure notice in both directions on Riverside Expressway and beyond.
  • Margaret St closures and reduced speed limits on the approach to the road closure for the nominated dates.
  • Detour signage and traffic control to direct motorists and guests to The Star Brisbane and into the CBD
  • Engine noise from cranes lifting material within the site and installing the gantry.
  • Intermittent noisy works, including hammering and truck movement.
