Neville Bonner Bridge

Named in honour of the late Indigenous Senator Neville Bonner AO, the Neville Bonner Bridge will link both sides of the Brisbane River, forming a stronger connection between the popular South Bank arts and cultural precinct and the future Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct.

The Neville Bonner Bridge will be a focal icon for the development, adding to Brisbane’s collection of unique bridges and enabling greater connectivity for both locals and visitors. Connecting South Bank and Queen’s Wharf Brisbane via a Grimshaw beautifully designed pedestrian bridge will further enhance the connectivity of Brisbane’s CBD and its key surrounding features.

Key facts about Neville Bonner Bridge:

  • Over 320 metres in length
  • Height of the mast 77 metres above sea level
  • Up to 10,000 pedestrian crossings a day expected
  • Connects South Bank cultural forecourt to the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct and will provide through access to William and George Streets in the CBD
  • Constructed using over 1000 tonnes of structural steel and 900 tonnes temporary steelwork
  • Steel for the bridge was sourced from steel fabricators located in South-East Queensland
  • Overall design features a classic arch and cable-stayed bridge structure
  • Builder: Fitzgerald Constructions

The bridge is expected to open to the public with Queen’s Wharf staged opening from August 2024.
